The essence of a good design lies in the ability of a work to give birth to its form, from its own needs and special characteristics, with respect to the past and responsibility for the future.
Walls and slabs are measurable entities, but not the human soul.
We often come across spaces that otherwise have the right sizes and we would consider as “functional” ending up not to inspire the user. Nikos Kazantzakis in ‘Asceticism’ notes that we are nothing but weak beings ‘made of mud and dreams’. We covered the weakness by placing a roof over our heads for protection, but what do we do for the dreams? A space has the right but mainly the obligation not to “spoil” the user but to inspire him, to enable him to evolve spiritually and providing him with a unique architectural experience.
Humans are naturally inclined towards nature, cultural beauty and heritage.
In light of this, architects are entrusted with the responsibility of birthing designs that offer users not only aesthetically pleasing compositions but also a nourishment for the soul, ‘soul food’ as well. The design process must be rooted in the distinctive attributes of each unique context, of each individual case. Landscape, sustainability and locality, are in the core of the process which are essential in shaping both the cultural and topographical identity.
The significance of knowing how to approach a problem, the point of view and the ability to observe is vital.
A project starts by asking the right questions, the parameters of the place are studied, the needs and the vision (psyche) of the user are added as well as the special conditions of the site. The above are grafted on the architect’s dream and after the required time of spiritual pregnancy and search of the best solution, this something we call Architecture is molded, sometimes as a toil and sometimes as a finding or innovation.
Architecture must take the place seriously, without being mimetic, but primarily dialectic, being an honest expression of its creator’s truth..
The aim is not for a house to imitate the environment or the image of an older architectural period, with other needs and other origins. The essence lies in the ability of a work to give birth to its form, from its own needs and special characteristics, with respect to the past and responsibility for the future. Then a timeless integration is achieved.
At KRAK. We focus on creating spaces that are pure in form and rich in meaning, spaces that are deeply connected to their context. It’s about designing buildings that are in tune with nature and place the human soul at the center, buildings that are not only efficient and beautiful but also emotionally and culturally resonant.
Architecture is not just about form and function it’s about storytelling. Our aim is, the buildings to belong, both to the people who inhabit them and to the landscapes from which they arise…only then, the concrete blocks, are transformed into a home with spatial qualities; with reason and with dream.
